oh that sweet smell

everyone has a particular smell that makes them smile, close there eyes and breathe deeply.
for some women it's an expensive perfume. for others it's freshly baked cookies. but for me, its freshly dyed hair... that almost sweet chemical smell that creates a strange tingle in your head.

having curly hair i can't do too much with it when it comes to style and cutting. too short and i end up with an afro, too long and the curl loses its bounce... i have about a 6 inch safety zone. so the only way i can do something different is with a bit of colour. as a result, the last time i saw my natural hair colour i was in the early years of highschool.

i've never gone black and i've never gone blonde but it's been every colour in-between. red, purple, copper, caramel, chocolate, mahogany, light brown, dark brown, sometimes all at once... and after a little mishap with an at home streaking kit, even a touch of orange made a cameo - even if it did only last as long as it took me to rip open a new packet.

today i attempted a really light brown. but since my hair had so much colour in it from the professional 'dark brown with a red tinge and copper highlights' job from a few weeks ago, its now 'slightly lighter shade of brown with a slight red tinge and not-quite-copper highlights'. but its got that intoxicating smell.

in a few weeks i'll go lighter... and one day soon i might even have enough guts to go blonde.... a really dark blonde... with honey and gold highlights. oh how i love highlights.
